Gordon Lees
Gordon Lees creates oil paintings that stand out for their warmth and atmosphere. His careful brushwork and strong technical control allow him to turn detailed subjects into scenes filled with light. He often paints British towns and villages, reflecting the traditional rural England that many feel has been lost over time.
Thomas Kinkade, one of America’s most prolific artists, recognised Lees as “The Original Master of Light.” Since Kinkade’s passing, interest in Lees’ paintings has grown significantly, particularly among collectors in the United States.
Gordon is self-taught and came to painting as a full-time career later in life. Before that, he worked across a wide range of fields, including the R.A.F., industry, mining, commerce, and plastics design, where he built a successful career as an industrial stylist. Throughout those years, he continued to paint and exhibit in his spare time. By the mid-1970s, demand for his work had grown enough for him to commit fully to painting, a long-held ambition. He now lives and works in the West Country, where the surrounding landscape continue to inspire him.
Gordon Lees has built a strong reputation as a British artist. His work has been shown at the Mall Galleries in London, as well as across the Home Counties and in leading galleries throughout the UK, the United States, and Japan. His imagery has also become familiar to many through greeting cards across the country.
His paintings, with their nostalgic view of British life and landscape, continue to attract collectors around the world and are widely regarded as a lasting and appealing investment.
